Communities of Caring

Life can be hard for many of our clients. Families often have to make impossible choices between food and utilities, or food and rent. The harsh reality is that when families buy food instead of paying their rent, the can end up living in their cars, or worse, out on the street. With your support our community partners provide food and a broad range of programs aimed at helping families build lives on self-sufficiency - a hand up, not a hand out. But we need your help. Please give what you can to make this holiday season, and the rest of the year, a brighter one for the nearly 400,000 people in need in Orange County. Hunger in America 2014

A new study by Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and Feeding America shows that more than 277,000 people in Orange County need the help of Second Harvest and its community partners to feed themselves and their families. Many in our community are too often are confronted with choices between paying for food and paying for other essentials. This study presents a revealing snapshot of the people served by Second Harvest - their circumstances, the challenges they face and the choices they are forced to make while trying to make ends meet on extremely limited household incomes. Please take a few minutes to read it. It will show you that the face of hunger is one you might recognize.
