Remembering Mark Wetterau

Mark WetterauMay 12, 2023 – Second Harvest is saddened to learn of the passing of Mark Wetterau, Chairman & CEO of Golden State Foods. Wetterau served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Second Harvest Food Bank from 2007-2011. He also led the $8 million capital campaign to renovate and overhaul the Food Bank’s expanded location in Irvine near the Great Park. Wetterau brought his leadership skills and expertise in the food industry to Second Harvest, as well as a deep passion to end hunger in Orange County.

“Mark was instrumental in this building that enables us to serve an average of 400,000 food insecure individuals in our community,” said Claudia Bonilla Keller, Second Harvest CEO. “I had the pleasure of hosting him at our ‘No Lunch’ Lunch event last November and, as always, he was complimentary of our progress and supportive of our mission. He will always be remembered as a fierce advocate and dear friend of the Food Bank.”

Joe Schoeningh served as Executive Director of the Food Bank during Wetterau’s time on the Board. “Mark lived by his and his company’s creed that we should treat people as we would like to be treated,” said Schoeningh. “He lived that daily. As Board Chairman, he visited almost all of the Food Bank’s partners and pantries at the time. And he made the time to get to know and to council each one of the Food Bank’s subsequent Executive Directors/CEOs. I often wondered where he found the time. He will be sincerely missed.”
