New Permanent Pantry: The Good Market/El Buen Mercado
Goodwill of Orange County and the Second Harvest teams came together to celebrate the new permanent food pantry at Goodwill's Tierney Center for Veteran Services.
In November 2023, Goodwill of Orange County and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County celebrated the opening of The Good Market/El Buen Mercado, a permanent food pantry at Goodwill’s Tierney Center for Veteran Services. Goodwill hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony, which included remarks from Goodwill of Orange County’s President & CEO Nicole Suydam and Second Harvest’s CEO Claudia Bonilla Keller.
“Having a permanent food pantry within our Tierney Center and retail distribution center allows us to provide a vital resource within arm’s reach to the several hundred employees, program participants and veterans that visit the center every day,” said Suydam. “The Good Market/El Buen Mercado ensures the people we serve have access to nutritious and quality food as they continue on their career development journey. Food and nutritional insecurity make it difficult for people to give their best at work. That’s why this support is so critical and such an important partnership for us.”
In the month of December 2023, The Good Market supported 793 households, feeding thousands of individuals including more than 500 children and more than 200 veterans.
“This partnership between Goodwill and Second Harvest is magical because the culture and spirit of both organizations are aligned,” said Bonilla Keller. “We know that food isn’t going to lift people out of poverty, but without food, the journey isn’t possible. We are so grateful to partners like Goodwill of Orange County who, through collaboration, allow us to carry forward our mission of providing dignified, equitable and consistent access to nutritious food.”
Goodwill of Orange County’s mission is to help people achieve their goals through a journey of personal support, work experience and career development. Consistent and dignified access to nutritious food makes this journey possible. Second Harvest is honored to continue our partnership with Goodwill of Orange County and are excited to see the impact that this permanent pantry will have on the community!
The Good Market/El Buen Mercado is open Monday-Friday 9am-2pm.
