For decades, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as Food Stamps, has been providing modest food subsidies for the working poor, the unemployed, and the disabled.
In Orange County, that means 326,856 people are eligible, yet only 91,825 actually receive this help.
• With even small amounts of SNAP aid, people need less help from us, so we can serve more people.
• Every dollar spent on food from SNAP creates $1.84 of economic activity, employing people in agriculture, manufacturing and retailing.
• If all the people eligible in Orange County were enrolled, it would mean more than $523 million of economic activity here.
