In January, 2010, we began a pilot program to supply kids with vital nutrition during weekends and school vacations.
We currently reach 150 children at three sites in low-income communities.
Each child receives a backpack full of child-friendly, non-perishable food that is easy to open and requires no preparation.
By using backpacks, we insure that these at-risk children get the food they need, without the stigma of being singled out for help.
According to Tristen Call, Service Coordinator of Hermosa Village in Anaheim, “The program is very helpful to families in these tough economic times. Many are struggling with unemployment and this helps offset the hardship.”
