Why Now?

The time is right for launching this program because:

  • As revenue streams decrease in today’s economy, companies need to find ways to reduce expenses.
  • The Good Samaritan Law protects businesses that donate in good faith.
  • Reallocating food that would otherwise go to landfills reduces environmental strain.

  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County’s Grocery Rescue program is designed to serve the needs of the donor, the agency, and the clients served.
  • Second Harvest Food bank of Orange County staff and member charities receiving perishable products are properly trained in the inspection and handling of food for safe consumption, and must follow strict guidelines for record keeping, food handling, and distribution.
